RESOLUTION MOTIVATION

It’s been a month since New Years resolutions were decided, but this year, maintaining them will be different. Whatever your goal is, whether it is fitness or not, remember you are worth it to keep trying. It might be a struggle at first, but you’re stronger than you think!

Motivating ourselves can be hard if we are not working out with friends or setting goals as a team, so make the most out of the little things. I get excited to go to the gym so I can snag my favorite machine before the crowds or to grab coffee afterwards as a reward. If this doesn’t work for you, try setting a goal to work out “x” times a week and when you complete that goal, treat yourself! Indulge in an acai bowl or vamp up your gym gear with activewear essentials.

Don’t forget the importance of activewear. Experiment with different looks to bring your workout to another level. How you dress is a significant influence on your mood. For me, dressing up to workout is a great motivation for myself because it gives me a sense of purpose and an added boost of confidence.

Check out my favorite finds below to make your resolutions exciting year-round, no matter your budget!

GULF BREEZE

Happy New Year Everyone!

This holiday season I spent time with family on the Gulf Coast and the weather was absolutely beautiful. From 70 degree weather beach days to moody thunderstorms, each day was a new season. It’s a welcomed break from the snow in Manhattan!
Here are a few impromptu shots from our walk along the shore in Florida. I found these striped loafers at Zara and they are the most comfortable flats I have found in years! The faux leather is soft and pliable, a must have for running errands or long days in the office.

Hope you guys are enjoying this start to a New Year.

BEAUTY: MAINTAINING ASH

I’ve always loved the edgy feel of platinum hair. An all black outfit with a pop of ash white coloring… timeless yet current.
Before grey was the it color, stylists would encourage me to stick with warm tones because they liked it more. Umm… that’s not what I asked for. Even if it looks bad, please just try it my way. Anyone else have this problem??
Thankfully my current hair stylist shares my love for platinum.

Before I found her, I relied solely on violet shampoo treatments. Most did not let the color process long enough so I’ve gone from orange to lemon yellow to strawberry blonde with in a matter of months. No one quiet understood the look I wanted so I ended up looking like every fruit in a produce aisle.
Damaged, both physically and emotionally, I turned to at-home toners that would help transform my brassy shades. That is when I discovered the wonders of violet shampoo. I’ve used several brands before but nothing has held a candle to TIGI’s Catwalk Fashionista Shampoo.

I rarely review products because there are few that have truly transformed my beauty routine like this shampoo has. GUYS. If your locks are turning an unforgiving brass hue, go buy this now. Side note: The sales rep encouraged me to use try the coordinating conditioner but honestly, I did not see a difference. Just get the shampoo, it is effective on its own.

WHY PURPLE
Think about the color wheel. The opposite color from yellow is purple. The two balance one another. So when you use violet shampoo there is a pigment in the formula which will neutralize brassy, yellow tones. The red and yellow tones are muted because blue and purple tones are added to the hair. This is how people with bright yellow/white hair can turn platinum after a few washes with purple shampoo.

HOW TO USE
Only use violet shampoo when your hair needs it because the formula can be strong. Definitely turned my hair purple at one point but it was a subtle color change and was actually really beautiful– so for those of you coveting Nicole Richie’s color, try purple shampoo first for a less permanent option.
You can leave TIGI’s shampoo on for up to 10 minutes. The time depends on how much attention your hair needs. What is great about purple shampoo is you can use it almost like a spot treatment on dry hair as well, so before you get in the shower, if you have a few highlighted sections you want to brighten instead of toning everything, section off pieces and apply generously. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then jump in the shower to wash off.

Super simple but makes a world of difference!

This post is not support by TIGI, I just truly love their product. All opinions are my own.

Let me know what your experience was with the product or what other techniques you use for maintaining your ashy locks!

TREND: VELVET

(ASOS Velvet Booties)

Velvet clothing might remind you of childhood vampire tales or rich old men in their libraries but it’s time to change your perception. Velvet hit the runway earlier this year and it hasn’t slowed down since. Brands ranging from Stella McCartney to Zara are embracing velvet as the new ‘it’ fabric. Before you welcome this trend into your closet, it is important to understand the different variations of velvet.

Velvet is referencing the structure of the material instead of the fiber which is normally wool or cotton. If you look at the underside, you will be able to tell if the foundation is wool or cotton. The soft plush front is actually the pile of the fabric thus categorizing it as velvet. There are different variations of velvet and each depends on the way the material was manipulated during manufacturing. Crushed velvet is created when the material is twisted while wet, leaving a permanent distressed effect. Devore is developed by chemically burning pieces of the pile to show the base material. This technique is most common in interior design to create patterns and new textures. Below you can see three different variations that are trending: traditional silk, crushed, and devore velvet

Take note on how some of your favorite influencers are styling velvet. From slip dresses to blazers, this trend will easily help you transition from season to season.

Preparing for the winter season with luxe knits and fur textures.
I love finding brands that support the use of faux leather and fur products like this stole from ASOS. It is extremely soft and supple giving the appearance of real fur without the guilt. Considering the technology available in the textile industry today, faux is finally chic. I get SO excited to see designers making the change to pet-friendly options that look luxe and keep me warm during winter months.

HAPPY DECEMBER 1ST!

This is the first time in years that I have the opportunity to be near family for the month of December! It gives me goosebumps to think about carols on repeat, the corny “A [blank] for Christmas” movies on the Hallmark station playing in the background of our living room, and planning winter trips to new locations.

Anyone traveling this season? If so, where are you headed?
